Who is Tony webber?
I’m sarcastic, cynical and usually open my mouth before thinking. Those are just some of my finer qualities! Here I am with a smile on my face, in desperate need of a shave.
For the past 10 years I’ve been working in a college media department, whilst continuing to make short films on the side. In August 2015 cutbacks were needed so I opted to take voluntary redundancy from my day job.
It was a scary thought, not to have a fixed address anymore and to be unemployed for the first time since university, but at the same time it was also very liberating. With my belongings now clogging up my parent’s respective lofts and sheds I started my new adventure.
I didn’t go on the traditional gap year and hadn’t been on a proper holiday since I backpacked around the USA in 1999. This year seemed like the perfect opportunity to make a break and try something different with my life. I’ll be looking for interesting stories and places, blogging about my experiences and making some films as I travel around.
Where am I going?
I’ll be flying out to Budapest in Hungary to do some sightseeing and will then study for a CELTA qualification. It’s an intensive course over 4 weeks, which will qualify me to teach English as a foreign language. After the course, I’ll start my journey by travelling around the Balkans and then onto Turkey and Ukraine. When my redundancy money runs out, I’ll fund my travels by teaching English.
My primary reason for starting this blog is to keep my family and friends up to date with where I am and what I’m doing. In time, I hope it will grow and other people will find things of interest here as well.
